Regeneration 2023 Program
Regeneration Festival was held at the Mullum SEED Eco Hub, home of Mullum Community Garden on the 4 March, 2023, between 9:00 am to 5pm.
There was affordable & delicious food, coffee & chai, fresh vegetarian gluten-free treats, zero waste to landfill & great information stalls.
For kids there were fun activities all day, including Seed-Bomb Making, Fire Trucks & the Spaghetti Circus Playspace.
Regeneration 2023 Program Details
10am – Reconnect with Regeneration
MC Mandy Nolan: Welcome to Country with Nickolla Clark. Opening session with Michael Lyon, Mayor Byron Shire Council, Mark Dunphy, Big Scrub Rainforest Conservancy, Jeannette Martin, Mullum SEED.
11am – Regenerating the Region
A panel on incentives for farmers, land-holders, workers, and the world, chaired by Mick O’Regan, with Rhonda James, Bushland Restoration Services, Georgina Jones, Envite and Liz Caddick, Byron Shire Council Biodiversity Team Leader.
11am – Walk/Talk – Dave Rawlins
Dave Rawlins is a passionate advocate for biodiversity conservation, he has been restoring a range of vegetation communities and working on threatened species recovery projects in Byron Shire for over 20 years.
11am – Seed Propagation Workshop
With Mark Dunphy, Jake Lennon, Firewheel Rainforest Nursery, Big Scrub Rainforest Conservancy; Michelle Chapman, Stephen Forshaw, ReForest Now. All ages and abilities, in ReForest Now Nursery.
All Day For Kids – Seed Bomb Making
Conservation Volunteers Australia will host a riverbank seed bomb making activity. It’s lots of fun so come along and get your hands dirty!
All Day For Kids – Spaghetti Circus Playspace
Spaghetti Circus will run a fun playspace for kids all day, in the kids space. And at 3pm a special performance from the Spaghetti Circus Super Mighties.
12pm – Learning from Country: A Bundjalung Voice
MC Mandy Nolan: Chair Rhoda Roberts (Widjabul Wia-bal), Delta Kay – Explore Byron Bay, (Arakwal), Kris Cook – Yidabal Galii Maa, (Nyangbal) and Shane Ivey, bush regenerator & member of Tweed/Byron Local Aboriginal Land Council, supported by Brookfarm.
1pm – Climate Ready Gardens
Brunswick Valley Landcare Workshop with Jo Green & Alison Ratcliffe, authors of Climate Resilient Landscapes. Learn tips on designing and planning a garden using natives plants that are resilient in our changing climate, with two local experts.
1pm – Walk/Talk – Bob Smeuninx
TAFE teacher and respected Bush Regenerator with Bushland Restoration Services.
1pm – Rotunda – Good Fire workshop
Come join Wren McLean of Zero Emissions Byron with distinguished guests Oliver Costello, Jagun Alliance Aboriginal Corporation and Dr Andy Baker to learn the whys and hows of keeping Good Fire alive in Byron Shire.
1pm – What is Permaculture?
Byron Region Community College and Byron Centre for Permaculture. Come and get inspired and see what permaculture can do for you, in discussion with Permaculture Trainer Lauren O’Reilly & Zachariah Holt, Permaculture Assistant Trainer. BRCC outdoor classroom.
2pm – Community Connecting to Country
MC Mandy Nolan. Damon Gameau celebrates School Students Regen work. REDinc Singing & signing choir & ceremonial tree-planting with Aunty Delta Kay.
3pm – Walk/Talk – Nadia de Souza Pietramale
Byron Shire Chemical Free Landcare Bush Regenerator Nadia de Souza Pietramale will talk about how to convert a Camphor laurel forest, back into rainforest, with zero synthetic herbicides.
3pm – Kids Space – Sarah Armstrong + Spaghetti Circus
All Sarah Armstrong’s novels (for adults and kids) are set around Mullumbimby. Her latest – ‘Big Magic’ for readers aged 9+ – is set in a circus and includes magic borrowed from nature. Also don’t miss a special performance from the Spaghetti Circus Super Mighties.
4pm – Dance to The Palm Wine Ambassadors
MC Mandy Nolan introduces the fabulous 9-piece Afro-world music groove sensation.
Bohemian Treats
Visionary Bohemian rocker, Felicity Lawless stimulates the senses and elevates the soul with music fusing Gypsy, world rock and folk elements. MsEleneous adds flourishes of virtuosic gypsy clarinet, saxophone and heart warming harmonies. The pair will drop in during the day for surprise performances.
